watch this thread die faster than May downloads by 'empty your hard drive' submitters...
If you have a WORLD CLASS recipe which is indiginous (i wish i could spell) to your country..
post them here. I'm not talking about recipes where you throw a chunk of aardvark on a fry pan and add some salt and pepper on it..
i want a recipe which takes a bit TIME TO PREPARE ...
with at least 4 or 5 of ingredients..
(ya, i know.. you Americans are scratching your heads, as HOT DOGS are as fancy as you guys get)
If you have some bizarre spices or ingredients, please google them to see if there are any substitutions for other people).
it can be specific to a certain area in your country.. such as a state (like a louisiana dish) or a province of a country ..etc...
and if no one wants to play...
we can complain about downloads or curse those illustrators who don't understand what a bad download day is)..
now.. i'll have to think about some Canadian Recipe or a French Quebec recipe (although Sandralise is into food shots.. so she must be a great cook)..
PLEASE SHOW US THE COUNTRY or AREA this recipe is from.

Here you go - my absolute favorite, not fancy, but takes time to prepare, and very traditional :)
Pierogi ruskie
Frasz
~6 ziemniakow
15 dkg sera bialego
cebula
Ciasto
40 dkg maki
1 jajko
maslo
3/4 szklanki mleka lub wody
Ugotowac ziemniaki w osolonej wodzie, utluc drobno lub zmielic. Dodac ser bialy starty na grubej tarce, pieprz i wczesniej podsmazona cebule, troche margaryny a pod koniec troche masla do cebuli, ma byc lekko zrumieniona. Wszystko to razem utluc, dodac soli i pieprzu do smaku. Pierogi nadziewa sie jeszcze cieplym nadzieniem. Dlatego ciasto mozna przygotowac odrobine wczesniej i przykryc by sie nie zeschlo.
Nakladac nadzienie i lepic pierogi. Gotowac w osolonej wodzie ok. 10 min. Po ugotowaniu polac stopionym maslem.
Smacznego!
Now, don't ask me to translate this :) |

Here’s mine:
Sprout Salad
First of all, I like to sprout the beans myself and that is what takes some time in this recipe. I usually use 3 different types of beans – mung beans (lentils), moth or matki or Turkish gram beans (I can’t find an English word for those) and black chickpeas. All should be available at the local Indian grocery store and maybe even health food stores. (I know several exist in the US and UK, not sure about other countries).
For sprouting:
• Soak the beans/ lentils (about 150-200 gm each) separately for 6-8 hours overnight.
• Rinse and tie them up in muslin cloths. Depending on the weather (you need a warm space), the lentils will begin to sprout in 1-2 days.
• Open them up to discover some beautiful sprouted lentils.
(Alternatively, after soaking lentils overnight, you can put them in a sprout maker and let them sprout in a warm space).
See here:

Once you have the sprouted lentils, to make a salad:
• Mix all the sprouts
• Chop and add 1 medium onion, 1 large tomato, 1 cucumber (all diced finely into small cubes)
• For those who love spicy foods, you can add 2-3 minced green chillies or crushed red pepper
• Add salt to taste
• Garnish with minced cilantro or mint leaves (Both taste good)
• Add the juice of about 1 medium-sized lemon.
That’s it. This provides a low-calorie filling snack/lunch/dinner with no oil, no dressing. Sprouts are extremely healthy and a great source of vitamin and protein, help cut cholesterol, great for losing weight, keeping blood sugar under control for diabetics etc..
If you like your salad to be sweet tasting, you can also add some pieces of fruit. In winters I typically add pomegranate seeds. I shall post a picture of the completed dish later but if anyone decides to try out this dish and needs help, let me know. |

Followed by one loud, looooong belch. aaaaahhhh.
I actually will have a recipe to share later, once the missus gets home to tell it to me. She's from Mexico, and you all might THINK you've had frijoles (pinto beans), but these are the real thing. |
