With Footage live for some time now, and with hundreds -probably thousands- of clips online... still no sales?
Just curious...
What kinda feedback does Footage get from prospective buyers? |

I know I go to the site about 15 million times a day to see where I stand with submitted clips! |
it's been 9 days since you wrote that... so after visiting the site (15m x 9days = 135m) 135 million times, where do you stand with your clips?? :)
any sales yet? how many clips do you have?
mine 10 are stil 'unable bla bla' and I have no idea what to do with them... |

I probably have gone to the site about a gazillion times, that's true. I have 16 clips up, 2 in the queue that are "Pending" and 4 that are "Unable to Process." The two that are "Pending" (and the last one to be accepted) were saved as AVI files (Microsoft AVI, NOT Microsoft DV AVI or Quicktime, which is how I had saved the ones that are saying "Unable to Process"). So I am going to try to stick with that, saving it as an AVI file straight from Adobe Premiere Pro (not Quicktime since none of those were "able to process" -- I've tried it 16 different ways and the only ones that have been accepted were Microsoft AVI format).
I have been going in and deleting the ones that say "Unable to Process," resaving and resubmitting them. I know that at 110-150 MB on SS's server, per clip, they don't mind my doing that, i doubt we will see any warnings for deleting bad clips. I wish SS would take a minute to read this forum and let us know how to handle this!
Good luck! |

you encouraged me to give it another try... so I did.
at first I thought OK, I'll save them just as AVI... but what about 'Compressor' ?? if I choose 'none' i'll need couple of months just to upload them:)
so I did it with DV AVI again, but this time I changed some of the setings, so I had my first "new" clip uploaded yesterday and its pending since!!! :)))
I'm uploading the other now, 4 to go, 6 are up and pending:)
this is what i do:
(i use premiere pro 1.5)
set file type: DV AVI
in 'compile settings' i make sure everything is UNchecked.
'Embedding Options' - 'None'
in 'video':
compressor: DV (PAL) -i'm a pal resident
pixel aspect ratio: D1/DV PAL (1.067)
'limit data rate to:' UNchecked
recompress - always -i don't think this has anything to do with it, but.... just in case;)
in 'keyframe and redering':
i CHECK 'Deinterlace Video Footage' and 'Optimize Stills'
in 'audio' i do not touch anything because my clips are with no sound... :)
that's it... if any of the clips desides to go 'unable..' i'll report it here! |

I really am sick of waiting to get footage reviewed, I almost wonder if shutterstock was ready to handle footage. |

Are you in a hurry? You can't be waiting for more than 3 days, as you joined on the 17th of may.
I'm sure they do what they can, though a short explanation what's going on would be nice, I think. |

Think of it this way, if you wait a week everytime to get something aproved. Thats alot of time. |

What else are you going to do with your time?
Besides, I don't think SS is selling clips yet... they have a lot of marketing to do and trust to build. They may even have to build a new paradigm for lower-end content producers who would buy the stuff that we are submitting. Take a look at the macro-footage sites, the stock sites for professional footage... those clips are highly polished and very expensive (and all of them use a tripod, ha ha). What we are submitting will be used by web designers, podcasters who need a clip or two of something they can't get themselves, and other more "common" applications.
So... my point is, relax, since even if all your clips were approved the day after they were submitted (I have 16 clips approved and I don't think SS has made one footage sale), what's the rush? Do you think you're going to get rich doing this? Ha! |

I'd agree with that. There should really be a way for the seller to choose a lower price-point for clips deemed more "amateur" than most. Most of the clips I've seen (including many of my own) just aren't worth the asking price IMO. I've browsed most of the footage now available, and apart from maybe 5% of it, I'm constantly asking myself "Who'd buy that for that much?!".
So I'd have to bet that there'll be some major restructuring of the footage site before the end of the year. |

Amen, brother. It's all trial-and-error, and we all have to learn the hard way when we're the pioneers. |
