Can I submit videos created on a mobile device?

Yes! It’s important to shoot and transfer in the highest resolution possible.

Updated over 4 months ago

Some of the most authentic, diverse, relevant and current video content is often captured on mobile devices. Shutterstock does accept high resolution video (HD or 4K) shot on mobile devices, provided that the content meets our general guidelines and technical requirements. Here are a few tips for creating video content on a mobile device that will be great for your next submission to Shutterstock:

Use the best camera

Keep in mind that on most phones, the user-facing camera has a much lower resolution than the camera on the back on the phone. Use the camera with the highest resolution, as well as the highest resolution capture settings on your device to capture video.

For vertically framed video: upload in a horizontal position

Vertical videos are in high demand for social media. For optimizing onsite display, we ask that you use your editing software to rotate vertical clips into a horizontal position before submitting them for review. Here is an example from our collection.

For vertically framed video, make sure your subject is properly framed. When filming vertically, it’s much easier to inadvertently crop out the subject of your clip.

Keep it steady

Although certain movement and shake can be considered a stylistic choice in video content creation, unintentional abrupt movements could lead to your submission being rejected during review.

Transfer without losing quality

You will want to transfer your footage from your phone or tablet to your computer using the device cable since emailing or messaging the video as an attachment will result in a loss of quality, which could lead to unacceptable levels of noise and grain.
