Content Quality Standards: Extra Vector Objects

Vectors should not contain any objects outside of artboard or in hidden layers.

Our system validates files for a number of technical requirements at upload. If you received an Extra Vector Objects error at upload, it is because of one or more of the following issues:

Objects outside the artboard

  • Vector submissions cannot contain extra vector objects located outside the artboard of your vector file.

  • Extra vector objects are defined as extraneous objects that are not part of the artwork and are located outside the artboard.

Unacceptable Example: Objects outside the artboard

User-added image

In the above example, the final artwork is contained within the artboard (within the pink square). However, notice there are 8 extra icons located outside of the artboard boundaries (beyond the pink square). These icons are not a part of the final submission and need to be removed before submitting.

Objects in hidden layers

  • Vector submissions cannot contain extra vector objects located in hidden layers of your EPS file

  • After unhiding all objects, view your artwork in Outline Mode to confirm there are no extra objects concealed in hidden layers..

Unacceptable Example: Objects in hidden layers

In the below example, the submitted vector is seen in normal preview mode (left). When viewing the vector in outline mode (right), extra objects that were concealed in hidden layers are now visible. The presence of these extra unanticipated objects can create a poor experience for a customer using your file.

How to Fix these Issues in Adobe Illustrator

  • Make sure all objects are unhidden and delete anything outside the artboard bounds

    • In the menu bar, go to Object > Show All. This unhides all objects that were previously hidden.

We Recommend

Before submitting your vector file, ask yourself:

  • Have I checked the workspace outside of the artboard for any extra vector objects?

  • Have I checked to make sure that there are no hidden objects located in any layers?

  • Have I deleted all objects not meant to be seen in the final image submission?
