How does the Shutterstock referral program work?

Learn how Shutterstock’s referral program works, where to find your links, how referrals are tracked, and how to earn extra income

Shutterstock offers a referral program that allows contributors to earn additional income by referring new contributors or customers.

1. Finding your referral links

  • Your unique referral links can be found in your Promotions page: Referral links

  • They are also available under the My Referrals section in the Earnings menu of your contributor homepage.

  • You can share your links directly on social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) or send them via email.

2. How referrals work

  • The person you refer must click on your referral link before they sign up.

  • Once clicked, a 30-day cookie with your referral ID is stored in their browser.

  • If they create an account within 30 days (even a free customer browse account), your referral ID is automatically associated with their account.

  • Referrals cannot be added retrospectively. If someone signs up without using your referral link, you will not receive credit.

3. Tracking your referrals

  • Once a new contributor has signed up through your link, they will appear in your dashboard under Earnings → Referrals: Referral dashboard

  • Here you can see all credited referrals and any payments earned through the program.

4. Important notes

  • You can refer both customers and contributors.

  • The process is automatic once the referral link has been clicked.

  • If a contributor or customer has already registered without using a referral link, they cannot later be credited as your referral.
