Can I control how my content is licensed?

Contributor account settings provide a number of options for you to control how your content is licensed.

The account settings page in the contributor account provides a number of options for you to have full control over how the content in your Shutterstock portfolio is licensed. Just navigate to the Licensing options section to configure the permissions.

Creative Licensing

The Image and Footage licensing settings determine whether the approved content in your portfolio is made available for customers to download via our creative marketplace. When your content is opted into creative licensing, customers can use one of the many plans available on our e-Commerce or Enterprise platforms to purchase a license with which they can download and use your images or video clips.

Data Licensing

This setting allows Shutterstock to include your content in datasets that are licensed by customers seeking visual content and its metadata to train computer vision systems and machine learning technology. We have separate toggles to give you control over data licensing for images and video. You can learn more about data licensing here.

Managing Permissions

If you want to keep your account active but make your content unavailable for customers to license, you can easily do so by managing your licensing options. This will allow you to remove your work from our website or data catalog without having to delete all your content, and with the option to reactivate your portfolio at a later time.

To make your content available for licensing you will just need to turn on licensing permissions.

Changing licensing permissions in your account:

1. Sign in to your account.
2. Navigate to your Account settings and choose Edit at the top of the page.
3. You will be asked to verify your account.
4. Once your account has been verified, scroll down to your licensing options and toggle “yes” or “no” on your licensing options.

It can take up to 72 hours for the removal or reactivation of your portfolio to be reflected on our website. Please note that if you choose to remove your content from creative marketplace licensing, you will not be able to reinstate your portfolio on the customer site for 30 days. This provision ensures the stability of our content library and guarantees a consistent customer experience.
