Portfolio: Preparing Your Uploaded Content for Submission

Submit Content helps prepare your uploaded content for review

The Portfolio page of the contributor account is the one-stop shop for managing all your content submissions for the Shutterstock marketplace, from upload and submission to review and publishing.

Upload

All uploaded content is displayed as thumbnails under the "Not submitted" tab. You can easily toggle between Images and Videos by making the appropriate selection in the drop-down menu in the bar above the thumbnails. Vector files are identified by the file extension and are automatically tagged as illustrations at upload.

Select Content for Editing

You can edit one file at a time or select multiple images or clips at once by checking the box in the top left of the thumbnail. You can select up to 100 files at once by clicking the thumbnail and choosing "Select page."

Edit Metadata

A new editor window will pop up for you to complete a number of required fields for submission. Each content submission must have:

  • A description that succinctly captures the visual. There is a 150 character limit in this field.

  • One category is required, a second category is optional

  • At least 7 keywords that capture details and context in addition to the description. You can enter your own or pick from our keyword suggestions.

We’ve published some tips for metadata here: Title and Keyword Guidelines, Policies and Best Practices. You can also attach releases, add a note for the reviewer, or add tags as appropriate. Metadata and tagging requirements differ by content type. Learn more about submission requirements for: Photos, Illustrations, Vectors, and Video.

If your images or video clips require a release, you’ll need to attach a completed release or create a new one. You can learn more about our release requirements here. Also, if you were provided with a case number by our support team, you can enter it in the “Notes for Reviewer” section.

The location field is optional for all asset types: photos, illustrations, vectors and videos. It should be used for identifying the location of the subject in the piece of content. Though this field is optional, it will be verified by reviewers if completed and must be relevant to the physical location and the metadata and/or the property release (if applicable). Be as specific as you can, selecting the region, town, or even neighborhood of the content.

Submit Your Content

Once you have completed all the required fields in the editor window you can click the “Submit” button at the top of the editor window to send your content submission to our review team. Once successfully submitted, you will see the images or videos appear under the "Pending" tab.

If you prepared your uploaded content for submission, but nothing happens when you click the Submit button, it is most likely because your submission contains an error. Click here to learn more.

If you entered descriptions and metadata, but are not quite ready to submit, no problem! You have up to 21 days to submit saved content for review from the time it has been uploaded. However, if you do not submit your work to us within that time frame, it will automatically be deleted from our servers and removed from your Portfolio.

After Review

Once your content is submitted and reviewed by our team, you can view the results in the “Recently reviewed” tab, which will display results for recently reviewed content for 21 days with a label that indicates the results of the review.

If your content was not approved because it did not meet certain technical quality or legal requirements, you will be able to learn more about the rejection reason by opening the “View” module and clicking on the hyperlink in the rejection reason description.

Content that was approved for licensing via our creative marketplace will be published in your portfolio within 72 hours of approval and will be reflected in the “Marketplace catalog” tab.
