Why was my content rejected for Unnecessary Release?

Attaching unnecessary releases may lead to rejection

If your content was rejected with “You have provided a reference image that is not required, or an unnecessary model release or property release is attached. Please provide only the exact number of releases required,” it is probably due to one of the following reasons:

The attached Model Release is Unnecessary

A model release is attached to an image that does not contain any recognizable people.

Extra Model Releases are Attached

The number of model release attachments exceeds the number of models in the image.

For example, the image below requires three model releases because there are three identifiable models. Attaching more than three model releases could lead to an Unnecessary Release rejection.

An Unnecessary Image is Uploaded as a Model or Property Release

An unnecessary image, such as a copy of the image being submitted, is uploaded as a model or property release.

The attached Property Release is Unnecessary

An extra or unnecessary real estate property release, artwork property release, or tattoo property release is attached.

For example, the image below requires a property release because the home interior is identifiable. Attaching more than one property release for the location could lead to an Unnecessary Release rejection.

A Reference Image is Attached

Reference images for the following content are no longer required:

  • Silhouettes, including photographs with composited silhouettes

  • Auto-traced vectors

  • Gradient meshes (non-abstract)

  • Photos filtered to look like illustrations or used as the basis of an illustration

  • Low-poly (non-abstract)

  • Pixel/mosaic art (non-abstract)

A 3D Interior Property Release is Attached

Software and license information for 3D renderings of interior spaces is no longer required (i.e., a 3D Interior Property Release).

We Recommend

  • The number of model releases should match the number of recognizable people in the image.

  • Even if a model’s face is not visible, tattoos or other distinguishing marks on a person’s body require a signed model release.

  • A model release is not required for just a body part, such as a hand, however, it is acceptable to include one.
