As we introduced our new requirements for vector uploading and submission, a number of questions were brought to our attention by our contributors. Here are the answers to the most commonly asked questions we have received:
Q: In the past, I used to be able to embed EXIF metadata into my JPEG preview and see it populate on the Submit content page. When I try and do the same thing with my EPS file, it doesn't work.
A: We now can extract metadata directly from the EPS file, but there are some nuances depending on which program was used for saving. For information on how to embed in EPS, please refer to this article.
Q: The new 4MP requirement makes it impossible to create a vector file under 100MB. What can I do to decrease the file size without compromising the quality of my artwork?
A: We have gathered some suggestions that you may find helpful for decreasing the file size, please refer to this article.
Q: Why is there is a color difference between my EPS file and the automatically generated JPEG preview?
A: If you see a slight color difference between your original EPS and the JPEG preview we created, please make sure to exclude CMYK PostScript information in RGB files when saving your EPS file. (In Adobe Illustrator, this checkbox appears in the “EPS Options” pop-up when saving the EPS file).
Q: Why is my JPEG preview so much more pixelated/grainy than the original EPS file?
A: If your JPEG preview appears pixelated or grainy, please increase the dimensions of your artboard and artwork.
Q: Why are my EPS files still getting rejected?!? I keep getting the error stating I have not met the 4MP minimum, but I have!
A: You may be confusing megabytes with megapixels. The error you are receiving is due to the fact that your vector file does not meet the 4 megapixel minimum requirement (artwork dimensions). Q: My artwork keeps getting the error message that it is not 4MP, how do I increase the dimensions?
A: In Adobe Illustrator, use the Selection Tool and select everything in your file. Then, check the Width and Height of your artwork in the Transform panel (in CC 2018 and newer, this panel is nested under the Properties tab). To increase the dimensions enter a higher value in the W and H fields (see screenshot below).
Q: My EPS has white space around the image in my artboard, but my JPEG preview is cropped, removing the intended white space. How do I keep the white space?
A: When we create the JPEG preview, we do not take the artboard into account. Instead, we crop the JPEG around the bounding box of your art. For instructions on how to preserve the white space around your work, please refer to this article.
Q: I don’t like the JPEG you created for me. How can I replace it with my own?
A: We don’t support replacement of JPEG previews at this time, and have no plans to support it in the future. However, if there is a technical issue with the JPEG preview we’ve created for you, we definitely want to know about it, so please contact us.
