What you need to know about Shutterstock + Pond5

Frequently asked questions about the impact of the recent acquisition on our contributor community.

Shutterstock has acquired Pond5––the go-to marketplace for filmmakers, media organizations, and marketers worldwide. Through this acquisition, we are combining Shutterstock’s premier creative platform and content marketplace with Pond5’s video assets and product portfolio to form an unrivaled creative platform that offers full-service solutions, high-quality content, and applications for brands, businesses, and media companies.

Why is Pond5 being acquired by Shutterstock?

With more than 30 million licensable video clips - and 15,000 new videos uploaded every day - and a best-in-class search experience, Pond5 is uniquely positioned to meet the content needs of multimedia creators. Combined with Shutterstock’s premier creative platform and content marketplace, we are building the most extensive content collection of motion, footage, and premium editorial archives in the world––we will now be the world’s largest content marketplace.

Is Pond5 being rebranded as Shutterstock or some other name?

Pond5 will continue to operate as a standalone marketplace under the same brand and team for the foreseeable future.

What if I’m already licensing my content through both sites? Will my accounts be merged?

No, your accounts will not be connected - your content will exist on both Pond5 and Shutterstock and you will continue to receive payouts from both companies as you currently do. In time, we’ll find ways to simplify the experience for you.

Should I continue uploading new content to Pond5 and Shutterstock?

Yes! Keep uploading content and referring traffic as you normally would to both platforms.

Has the Shutterstock TOS or Pond5 Contributor Agreement changed?

No, the terms and agreements for both platforms remain the same.

Does this change my royalty rates on Shutterstock or Pond5?

Your royalty rates on both platforms remain unchanged.

Will my content now appear on Pond5?

No, Shutterstock content will not be distributed through Pond5. However, Pond5 does expect to distribute some content through Shutterstock’s marketplace. If your Pond5 content is distributed through Shutterstock, you will still receive payment through Pond5 (the same way other reseller partnerships function on Pond5).

Do I need to take any action?

You don’t need to take any action. Your experience on Shutterstock and Pond5 remains the same, and we will continue to operate in the same way that we do now.
